Can I Ship Dangerous Goods with ShipTime?

Dangerous Goods cannot be shipped using ShipTime’s discounted courier rates.

Dangerous Goods are highly regulated and may require specialized documentation, packaging, labelling, handling, and carrier authorization. Because these requirements vary by commodity and carrier, ShipTime’s discounted rates are intended for standard, non-Dangerous Goods shipments.

Can I ship Dangerous Goods using Bring Your Own Rates?

Yes, in some cases.

If you already have your own courier account that is authorized to transport Dangerous Goods, you may be able to manage those shipments through ShipTime using Bring Your Own Rates (BYOR).

To get started:

  1. Log in to your ShipTime account.
  2. Go to your account settings and add the courier account that is authorized to ship Dangerous Goods.
  3. Contact our Heroic Support™ team once the courier account has been added so we can assist with the BYOR setup and confirm whether Dangerous Goods can be enabled.

Your own courier account must already be authorized for the applicable Dangerous Goods shipments. Adding a courier account to ShipTime does not automatically provide Dangerous Goods authorization.

Reusing boxes that previously contained Dangerous Goods

If you reuse packaging, remove all old Dangerous Goods labels, markings, symbols, and other indicators from the outside of the package.

Carriers may treat a package as Dangerous Goods based on visible markings, even when the current contents are not considered Dangerous Goods. Partially covering or obscuring an old Dangerous Goods label may not be sufficient.

  

Before shipping Dangerous Goods

Dangerous Goods requirements depend on factors such as the commodity, classification, quantity, packaging, mode of transportation, destination, and carrier.

Always confirm that:

  • your courier account is authorized for the Dangerous Goods being shipped
  • the shipment meets the carrier’s packaging, documentation, and labelling requirements
  • all applicable transportation regulations are followed
