How Do Product and Box Weights Work in ShipTime?
ShipTime supports product and box weights with up to three decimal places.
This gives you more flexibility when entering very light items or packaging materials, where rounding to a whole number or a single decimal could affect the total shipment weight.
Why decimal weights matter
For lightweight products, small differences in weight can add up across an order.
Using up to three decimal places can help ShipTime calculate a more accurate total shipment weight, which can improve the accuracy of Real-Time Rates shown at checkout.
This can be especially useful for items such as:
- Small hardware
- Lightweight accessories
- Craft supplies
- Other low-weight products sold in quantity
Product weight
Enter the most accurate weight available for each product.
ShipTime can use these product weights when calculating the total weight of an eCommerce order.

Box weight
You can also enter the weight of your packaging using up to three decimal places.
The box weight should represent the weight of the packaging itself, separate from the products inside.

Why accurate weights are important
Accurate product and packaging weights can help:
- Improve shipping rate calculations
- Reduce rounding errors for lightweight items
- Provide more accurate Real-Time Rates at checkout
