Loomis Peak Season Surcharges

Loomis Express may apply temporary Demand Surcharges during periods of elevated shipment volume, high demand for network capacity, or increased operating costs.

Although Loomis refers to these charges as Demand Surcharges, this article uses the title Peak Season Surcharges for consistency with ShipTime’s other courier surcharge articles.

For the 2026 peak season, most Loomis Demand Surcharges are effective from October 16, 2026 through January 18, 2027.

Tire Demand Surcharge

Effective October 16, 2026, Loomis will apply a $20 per-piece Tire Demand Surcharge.

This commodity-specific charge is applied in addition to existing Special Handling fees that may already apply to the shipment.

The surcharge remains in effect through January 18, 2027.

Special Handling / Non-Conveyable

The Special Handling Demand Surcharge may apply to items that require additional handling because of their packaging, size, shape, contents, or inability to move through normal automated handling.

Loomis lists examples including:

  • pails and containers
  • tires
  • ball bearings
  • nuts, bolts, and fasteners
  • liquids
  • wooden or metal crates
  • other non-conveyable items

The 2026 Demand Surcharge is:

  • $7 per package for Domestic and International shipments
  • $7.70 per package for U.S. shipments

These amounts are added to Loomis’ existing Special Handling tariff charge.

Oversized

Loomis defines an Oversized package as one where:

  • a single dimension exceeds 48 in (122 cm), or
  • two dimensions exceed 32 in (82 cm)

The 2026 Demand Surcharge is:

  • $7 per package for Domestic and International shipments
  • $7.70 per package for U.S. shipments

The Demand Surcharge is added to the applicable standard Oversized charge.

Overweight

Loomis applies its Overweight charge to any package or article with an actual weight greater than:

70 lb (32 kg)

The 2026 Demand Surcharge is:

  • $7 per package for Domestic and International shipments
  • $7.70 per package for U.S. shipments

This is charged in addition to the regular Overweight accessorial fee.

Large Package

A Large Package surcharge applies when:

  • length plus girth exceeds 130 in (330 cm), or
  • a single dimension exceeds 96 in (244 cm)

Loomis defines length as the longest side of the package and girth as:

Girth = 2 × (Width + Height)

The 2026 Demand Surcharge is:

  • $50 per package for Domestic shipments
  • $77 per package for U.S. and International shipments

This charge is added to the existing Large Package surcharge.

Over Maximum Size or Weight

An Over Maximum charge applies when a package exceeds any one of Loomis’ maximum thresholds:

  • any single side over 108 in (274 cm)
  • actual weight over 150 lb (68 kg)
  • length plus girth over 165 in (419 cm)

The 2026 Demand Surcharge is:

  • $450 per package for Domestic and International shipments
  • $495 per package for U.S. shipments

The Demand Surcharge is added to Loomis’ already applicable Over Maximum Size or Weight charge.

What is the Residential Demand Surcharge?

Loomis has also announced a $2 per-shipment Residential Demand Surcharge, effective October 30, 2026 through January 18, 2027, for certain high-volume customers.

The surcharge may apply when a customer ships more than:

  • 2,000 residential shipments per business day, or
  • 10,000 residential shipments per week

during a week in November or December 2026.

Loomis states that the charge applies only to qualifying volume that exceeds 200% of the customer’s average weekly residential volume, measured between May 31 and June 28, 2026, where Loomis did not provide express written consent for the volume increase.

If triggered, Loomis may apply the Residential Demand Surcharge to residential shipments between October 30, 2026 and January 18, 2027.
