What Are the LTL Shipping Restrictions with ShipTime?

ShipTime supports Less Than Truckload (LTL) shipping for eligible palletized freight between Canada and the United States.

Where is LTL shipping available?

LTL shipping is currently available for:

  • Canada to Canada
  • Canada to the United States
  • United States to Canada

What are the pallet requirements?

All LTL shipments must be securely attached to a pallet before pickup.

ShipTime currently supports up to 6 pallets per shipment.

To help reduce the risk of damage or delays:

  • secure all items firmly to the pallet
  • make sure nothing extends beyond the pallet unnecessarily
  • protect the shipment appropriately for freight handling
  • enter accurate dimensions and weight for each pallet

What are the maximum dimensions and weight?

Each pallet can weigh up to 3,000 lb.

Maximum pallet dimensions are:

  • Length: 140 in
  • Width: 92 in
  • Height: 96 in

Shipments exceeding these limits may not be eligible for standard LTL service through ShipTime.

Do I need a customs broker?

Yes. For cross-border LTL shipments between Canada and the United States, you must have your own customs broker.

Make sure your customs information is arranged before shipping to help avoid border delays.

What items cannot be shipped by LTL?

The following are not accepted for standard LTL shipping through ShipTime:

  • personal goods
  • perishable goods
  • artwork

Additional commodity restrictions may apply depending on the carrier, destination, and shipment details.

What should I check before booking an LTL shipment?

Before creating your shipment, confirm that:

  • all freight is properly secured to a pallet
  • the shipment is within the applicable size and weight limits
  • the commodity is eligible for LTL shipping
  • cross-border shipments have a customs broker arranged
  • the shipment details entered in ShipTime are accurate
