Can I Ship a Suitcase with ShipTime?

Yes. You can ship a suitcase or other luggage through ShipTime, but there are some important packaging and Special Handling considerations to keep in mind.

Suitcases and other luggage that are shipped without being fully enclosed in a corrugated cardboard box may be considered non-conveyable or require Special Handling by the carrier. This can result in additional charges. ShipTime Canada Inc.

Should I put the suitcase in a box?

Whenever possible, place the suitcase inside a sturdy corrugated cardboard box.

This helps:

  • protect the suitcase during transit
  • protect handles, wheels, zippers, and straps
  • reduce the chance of the shipping label becoming detached
  • make the shipment easier to process through automated carrier sorting systems

Use appropriate cushioning inside the box to prevent the suitcase from moving during transit.

Packaging the suitcase in a box does not guarantee that Special Handling charges will not apply. Carrier surcharges may also be triggered by the shipment’s size, weight, shape, or other packaging characteristics. ShipTime Canada Inc.

What if I cannot put the suitcase in a box?

If the suitcase will be shipped without a standard box:

  1. Enter the suitcase’s actual dimensions and weight when creating the shipment.
  2. Select Special Handling during the Shipment Details step.
  3. Make sure all handles, straps, and other loose components are secured.
  4. Attach the shipping label securely to a flat, visible area.

ShipTime’s current Shipment Details guidance instructs customers to select Special Handling for oversized or irregular items that do not fit into a standard box. ShipTime Canada Inc.

How should I attach the shipping label?

The shipping label must remain securely attached and readable throughout transit.

If you are attaching the label directly to the suitcase:

  • use a secure shipping-label pouch when possible
  • place it on a flat surface
  • avoid attaching it to handles, straps, or areas where it can easily tear away
  • make sure the barcode is flat and unobstructed

Placing the suitcase inside a cardboard box is still the preferred option.

Can additional charges apply?

Yes.

A carrier may apply Special Handling or other surcharges when a suitcase is:

  • shipped without suitable outer packaging
  • irregularly shaped
  • oversized
  • overweight
  • otherwise unsuitable for normal automated sorting

These charges are determined by the carrier and may be assessed after the shipment has been processed. ShipTime Canada Inc.

Can I add ShipTime Insurance?

You can enter a Declared Value when creating an eligible shipment to purchase ShipTime Insurance.

Coverage is subject to the ShipTime Insurance terms, conditions, exclusions, and documentation requirements, so the contents of the suitcase should be reviewed for eligibility before relying on insurance coverage. ShipTime
