Does ShipTime Generate International Shipping Documents?
ShipTime collects the customs information you enter during shipment creation and generates the standard shipping documents required for many international shipments, including the Commercial Invoice when applicable.
However, ShipTime does not necessarily generate every document that may be required for your shipment.
What documents does ShipTime generate?
Depending on the shipment, ShipTime may generate documents such as:
- shipping labels
- Commercial Invoice
- other standard carrier documents associated with the selected service
The documents generated are based on the shipment information you provide in ShipTime.
Make sure all customs information is complete and accurate, including:
- product descriptions
- quantities
- values
- country of origin
- HS Codes, when required
- reason for export
Could I need additional documents?
Yes.
Some products, destinations, or shipment types may require additional documentation that is not automatically generated by ShipTime.
Examples can include:
- permits or licences
- certificates
- government agency forms
- export declarations
- product-specific compliance documents
- other customs or regulatory paperwork
The exact requirements depend on factors such as:
- what you are shipping
- where the goods were manufactured
- the origin and destination countries
- shipment value
- applicable government regulations
Who is responsible for additional documentation?
The shipper is responsible for confirming that all required documentation is provided before the shipment enters the carrier network.
If you are unsure whether additional documents are required, check with the applicable customs or government authority, your customs broker when applicable, or the carrier before shipping.
For information about customs brokers, see Do I Need a Customs Broker for International Shipping?
What if my shipment supports paperless customs documents?
Some carriers and services support electronic customs documentation, allowing documents such as the Commercial Invoice to be transmitted electronically rather than attached to the package.
For more information, see How Does Paperless Commercial Invoicing Work with ShipTime?.
When paper documents are required, make sure they are attached correctly to the shipment.
