ShipTime Insurance Details & Pricing
ShipTime Insurance helps protect eligible shipments against loss or damage when an insured value is added during shipment creation.
When creating a shipment, enter the amount you want insured in the Ins. Value ($) field. Insurance pricing is based on the insured value, shipment type, and, for Quebec shippers, the applicable Quebec insurance rate.
How much does ShipTime Insurance cost?
ShipTime shipments
| Insured Value | Insurance Cost |
|---|---|
| $1–$100 | No additional insurance charge |
| $101–$167 | Minimum charge of $2.50 |
| $168–$5,000 | $1.50 per $100 of insured value, prorated to the exact amount |
For example, an insured value of $200 would result in an insurance cost of approximately $3.00.
How much does insurance cost for BYOR shipments?
For Bring Your Own Rates (BYOR) shipments using your own courier account:
| Insured Value | Insurance Cost |
|---|---|
| $1–$100 | $2.50 minimum charge |
| $101–$167 | $2.50 minimum charge |
| $168–$5,000 | $1.50 per $100 of insured value, prorated to the exact amount |
BYOR insurance is purchased through ShipTime even though the shipment is moving on your own courier account.
What are the insurance rates for Quebec shippers?
For shipments subject to Quebec insurance pricing:
| Insured Value | Insurance Cost |
|---|---|
| $1–$100 | No additional insurance charge |
| Over $100 | $2.00 per $100 of insured value |
| Minimum premium when applicable | $2.50 |
What are the maximum insured values?
The following coverage limits apply:
- $5,000 maximum per parcel/item
- Up to $10,000 per parcel/item when shipping with FedEx, Purolator, UPS, or Nationex
- $100,000 maximum per shipment/order
- $10,000 maximum per pallet for LTL shipments
- $60,000 maximum per LTL shipment/order
Insurance eligibility is still subject to the applicable terms, conditions, exclusions, and commodity restrictions.
What happens if I leave Ins. Value ($) blank?
If the Ins. Value ($) field is left blank or entered as $0, ShipTime Insurance is not added to the shipment.
This means a claim cannot be filed through ShipTime Insurance for that shipment.
Carrier liability or other claim options may still apply depending on the shipment, carrier, and circumstances.
Can shipping costs be included in the insured value?
Yes.
ShipTime includes an option to automatically add the cost of shipping to the insured value entered in the Ins. Value ($) field.
When enabled, the shipping cost is included in the insured amount and may be included as part of an eligible ShipTime Insurance claim.

How do I file a ShipTime Insurance claim?
If you purchased ShipTime Insurance and need to submit a claim, you can start the process through your ShipTime account.
Go to Manage > History & Tracking, locate the shipment, and select Make Claim.
