What Is Adult Signature and How Does It Work?

Adult Signature is an optional delivery service that requires the recipient to meet the carrier’s minimum age requirement before signing for the shipment.

This can provide an added level of delivery confirmation for shipments where the sender wants to ensure the package is received by an adult.

How do I request Adult Signature?

When creating a shipment in ShipTime, the Adult Signature option is available on the Shipping Details screen when supported by the selected courier and service.

The cost of Adult Signature varies by courier and service. Any applicable charge will appear with the available courier options before you purchase the shipment.

Only services that support Adult Signature will display the option.


Can I make Adult Signature my default setting?

Yes.

To set Adult Signature as the default for future shipments:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Preferences & Defaults.
  3. Find the Signature setting.
  4. Select Adult.

You can still review and adjust the shipment options when creating an individual shipment.

Which couriers support Adult Signature?

Availability varies by courier, service, destination, and shipment type.

Purolator, Canada Post, Canpar, and Loomis

Purolator, Canada Post, Canpar, and Loomis support Adult Signature for eligible domestic shipments within Canada.

Adult Signature may not be available for international shipments with these carriers.

FedEx

FedEx supports Adult Signature on eligible domestic and international services.

Always review the available service options in ShipTime, since availability can vary.

What age is required for Canada Post Adult Signature?

For deliveries within Canada, Canada Post generally requires the recipient to be at least:

  • 19 years old in most provinces and territories
  • 18 years old in Quebec, Manitoba, and Alberta

The recipient may be required to provide acceptable proof of age at delivery.

Is Adult Signature guaranteed to be available?

No. Adult Signature is only available when supported by the courier, service, destination, and shipment details.

If the option does not appear when creating the shipment, it is not available for that service.
